Commercial Manager
I'm supporting a major consultancy partner delivering large-scale infrastructure programmes in West London. They are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager / Quantity Surveyor to take a key client-side role overseeing post-contract commercial activities on a complex, high-value project. This hire will replace existing resource and offers the chance to work at the forefront of NEC-based commercial management within a structured, well-supported team environment.
You will lead commercial governance across the project, manage two Commercial Managers, and take full ownership of post-contract delivery, change control, and cost reporting. This is a role for someone who thrives on detail, communication, and proactive risk mitigation. Candidates with contractor backgrounds (particularly in civil engineering) are strongly encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee and mentor two Commercial Managers on all commercial deliverables.
Manage all post-contract commercial activities under NEC contracts.
Lead package management, negotiation, and final account settlement.
Review, evaluate, and agree Compensation Events, entitlement assessments, and prolongation claims.
Produce and manage cost reports, ensuring accurate forecasting and robust cost control.
Drive cost avoidance strategies by collaborating closely with the contractor's commercial team.
Review methodologies, proposals, and design options to ensure solutions remain within budget.
Maintain full commercial oversight of project costs, risks, and opportunities.
Skills & Experience Required
Strong experience in commercial management on NEC-based projects.
Prior experience in major infrastructure or civil engineering environments (consultancy or contractor).
Proven post-contract commercial delivery skills, including change control and claims evaluation.
Strong cost reporting and financial management capability.
Ability to build positive relationships with contractor teams and influence outcomes.
Strong communication, analytical thinking, and negotiation skills.
