A top-tier international engineering contractor is seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer to join its European operations in Italy. With a secured project pipeline exceeding 5+ years, this organisation delivers some of the most advanced data centre, pharmaceutical, and high-tech manufacturing projects across Europe.

As Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will take ownership of mechanical engineering delivery and commissioning, ensuring consistent standards across design management, construction support, and system handover. You will also play a key role in mentoring engineers and shaping engineering best practice on site.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead mechanical design management and technical governance
* Review and validate system designs, P&IDs, schematics, and layouts
* Manage technical submittals, RFIs, deviations, and change control
* Review BIM models and coordinated drawings for technical compliance
* Manage equipment selection, long-lead items, and vendor workshops
* Identify value engineering and cost-saving opportunities
* Develop system trackers, CTQs, ITPs, and commissioning strategies
* Lead FATs, system walkdowns, snag management, and test pack delivery
* Ensure O&M documentation and certifications are fully compliant
* Support programme sequencing and milestone planning
* Manage procurement schedules, ROJ dates, and submittal trackers
* Provide technical input into subcontractor scopes, RFQs, and negotiations
* Mentor junior and intermediate engineers
* Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives
Requirements
* Degree-qualified in Mechanical or Building Services Engineering
* 10+ years’ relevant experience, with 3+ years in a lead or managerial role
* Strong background in data centres, pharmaceuticals, or complex industrial projects
* Excellent technical knowledge of HVAC, pipework, plant, and mechanical systems
* Confident leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
* Strong communicator with a proactive, solutions-driven mindset
