Mechanical Project Manager – Building Services

About the Role

We’re seeking an experienced Mechanical Project Manager with a strong commercial background to lead the delivery of M&E projects across sectors such as leisure, Ministry of Justice (MOJ), and commercial office fit-outs. Our projects range in scale and complexity, and we’re looking for someone at the top of the Project Manager bracket — ideally a Senior Project Manager — who can hit the ground running with minimal direction and quickly take full ownership of mechanical project delivery from inception through to completion.

Key Responsibilities

*

Lead mechanical project delivery on commercial building services projects, ensuring works are delivered safely, on time and within budget.

*

Plan, coordinate, and manage all aspects of mechanical engineering activities on site, including installation, testing, commissioning and handover.

*

Act as the primary client and stakeholder contact on projects; maintain strong relationships with contractors, consultants and internal teams.

*

Produce and manage project programmes, reports, risk logs and quality documentation.

*

Control project costs and resources, and proactively resolve issues or conflicts to maintain project performance.

*

Ensure compliance with relevant standards, legislation, and best practice throughout the project lifecycle.

*

Support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the project team.

Experience & Skills

*

Proven track record in commercial mechanical project management in the building services sector (e.g., leisure centres, offices, MOJ/justice works, fit-outs).

*

Strong experience managing multi-discipline projects aligned with mechanical scopes (e.g., HVAC, plumbing, ventilation).

*

Experience of managing contractors, subcontractors and supply chain partners effectively.

*

Excellent commercial awareness with experience in project cost control and contractual obligations.

*

Exceptional organisational, communication and problem-solving abilities.

*

Ability to work autonomously and deliver results with minimal training or oversight.

*

Chartered or degree-level mechanical/engineering qualification (desirable, but not essential with strong experience).

*

Proven leadership experience, capable of mentoring and guiding technical teams.

What We’re Looking For

This role is ideal for a high-calibre mechanical project professional operating at a Project Manager or Senior Project Manager level — someone who is comfortable taking accountability for significant commercial projects and performs effectively in a fast-paced delivery environment. Candidates with predominantly residential experience will not be considered
