An established civil engineering contractor operating within the clean water sector is seeking an experienced Works Planning & Scheduling Manager to support the delivery of a long-term water framework in Hampshire.
This is a key leadership role within the planning function, responsible for driving performance, supporting and developing a planning team, and ensuring works are coordinated efficiently in line with contractual SLAs and KPIs.
The Role
Reporting into Contract Management, the Works Planning & Scheduling Manager will take ownership of day-to-day planning operations across the framework. You will act as the central coordination point between project teams, operational site staff, senior leadership, and external stakeholders, ensuring clear communication and smooth delivery of works.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead, manage, and support a team of planners in a supervisory capacity
* Coordinate and programme works across multiple workstreams within the framework
* Ensure planning-related SLAs and KPIs are consistently met and reported against
* Monitor and manage permitting systems, ensuring full compliance at all times
* Communicate performance, risks, and progress updates to senior leadership
* Proactively share information on timescales, scope of works, and potential disruptions
* Work closely with project managers, site teams, and external stakeholders to align delivery
* Support and implement continuous improvement initiatives to enhance planning efficiency
* Produce reports and performance summaries for management review
* Ensure data handling and record keeping complies with company and data protection policies
* Positively represent the business and uphold high standards of customer service
Experience & Skills
* Proven experience in a senior planning or scheduling role
* Background in utilities, clean water, or construction environments preferred
* Strong leadership, organisational, and time-management skills
* Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities
* Confident managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
* Solutions-focused with a calm, diplomatic approach to problem-solving
* Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
* IT literate, with experience using MS Office and planning or customer management systems
Desirable Knowledge & Qualifications
* Minimum GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths
* Knowledge of Street Works processes and systems (e.g. Street Manager, Aurora)
* Experience using data and works management systems such as IFS, SWIMS, or similar
* Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a planning management or equivalent role
* Understanding of clean water frameworks or water industry regulations is advantageous
