Mechanical Design Engineer – Commercial Fit Out (Central London)

£65,000 – £75,000 + travel
2–3 days hybrid working
Permanent position

James Lewis are assisting a well-established building services contractor in the appointment of a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the delivery of UK commercial fit out projects. This is a great opportunity for an engineer who can take ownership of design through RIBA Stage 4/5, working closely with Project Managers, coordinators and client-side stakeholders to deliver compliant, buildable solutions to programme.

Experience and Qualifications

To be considered, you should have:

*

Degree qualified in a relevant subject (preferable)

*

Membership (or working towards membership) of a professional institute (preferable)

*

UK commercial fit out experience essential (contractor or consultancy background)

*

Highly proficient in mechanical design principles through RIBA Stage 4/5 across:

*

General fresh air, dirty extract and LEV ventilation services

*

Domestic services

*

Above ground drainage services

*

LTHW heating services

*

CHW, VRF and Hybrid VRF cooling services

*

Good understanding of WELL, BREEAM and NABERS requirements and their impact on design proposals (desirable)

*

Proficient in thermal modelling software packages (preferable)

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

Autonomous design of the above services, including Stage 4 calculations, plant/equipment selections and technical submissions within programme

*

Producing clear mark-up drawings and overseeing development with the coordination team into:

*

3D Revit / fabrication models

*

Stage 5 installation drawings

*

Attending internal and external meetings, including client-facing sessions

*

Working closely with Project Managers and the wider delivery team, providing technical support as required

*

Maintaining commercial awareness and understanding the cost implications of design decisions

Remuneration

£65,000 – £75,000 (dependent on experience)
