Operations Manager / Contracts Manager – RC Frames & Groundworks

Cityscape Recruitment

Operations Manager / Contracts Manager

RC Frame & Groundwork Subcontractor – £30m turnover

£120,000 – £130,000 + Bonuses + Benefits

West London office with projects in London and around the South of England.

About the Employer:

With a head office based around West London, this RC frame & groundwork specialist currently turns over around £30 million per annum, with individual packages ranging from £1m up to £10m each. This company is privately owned with an MD who remains hands-on, making sure standards are maintained and the business continues to grow. The company has a strong team, with every member of the management structure working together towards common goals. The senior team quite often refer to the business as a well-oiled machine, where each cog has a vital part to play. They are proud of their ability to secure a lot of their work through repeat business, as clients prefer to come back to them to negotiate future projects rather than the business just having to win work at open tender stages with aggressive pricing strategies. This business has plans in place to grow to £50m turnover over the next 3 years, and they have the bank balance, client list, and capability to meet that target.

About the Opportunity:

As an Operations Manager within this team, your role will support the MD with running the construction side of all of the projects. You’ll be involved from preconstruction through to delivery. Good man management and operational skills need to be shown, along with building knowledge with regard to RC frames and groundworks. Each project will have a project manager on it, but your role will support these managers. You’ll need to problem solve, look ahead, manage labour and costs across multiple sites, all while maintaining client relationships and the company's brand. The MD of this business is looking for someone from a trades background who understands how to build RC frames and groundworks, and has the operational skills to manage multiple sites and multiple teams. You will be his right-hand person. The opportunity to progress into an Operations Director's role exists.

About the Salary / Benefits:

Packages are always based on individuals’ backgrounds and experience, but as a rough guide, I have been told to target people earning anywhere from £120,000 to £130,000 per annum. This can be broken down in a number of ways, and this business is open to people on a PAYE or self-employed basis (including limited companies). Bonuses are available, as well as the usual fringe benefits.

About the Requirements:

I am looking for an individual who started life on site in a trades position (i.e. in groundworks or formwork). Having progressed through management, you will be operating as a Contracts Manager or Operations Manager now and will be used to covering multiple live projects. You must come from this sector background and have gained this management experience while working in the subcontract concrete frame and groundwork market.

About Me, Your Consultant:

My name is Andrew Jackson, and I am one of the founding directors of Cityscape Recruitment Ltd. I have over 20 years of experience in civil engineering & construction recruitment, during which time, I have specialised in the niche sectors of concrete frames, groundworks, basement construction and demolition.

So, what does that mean for you? It means I work with the vast majority of the groundwork & concrete frame businesses in the UK, and I can help not only introduce you, but I can give you up-to-date information on each of them, helping you make an informed decision so you can take your career forward.

I’ve been doing this for a while now, and I’ve maintained a positive reputation because I don’t tell people lies. I tell them everything I know and then let them choose. My job is simply to get you the options, give you the information and then let you decide what feels right for you.

How to Apply:

I am more than happy to discuss these opportunities with you over the phone or face to face in a fully confidential manner (you can get to know me while I get to know you). And I know this is an incestuous sector, and I fully understand the importance of keeping things discrete.

It would be ideal to see a copy of your CV to understand your previous experience and employment. In line with GDPR laws, nothing will be done with your CV/details until we have discussed the role in detail anyway, but having gained an understanding of your formal past, this may help when we come to discuss options.
