The Role – Groundworks Site Supervisor

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Groundworks Site Supervisor to support the delivery of a significant construction programme at RAF Fairford / Cirencester. This long-term, 12-month project requires a hands-on supervisor who understands the demands of civil engineering and groundwork packages, and who can lead teams effectively on site.

The Groundworks Site Supervisor will work closely with site management and engineering teams to ensure that all groundworks and associated plant operations are delivered safely, on time and to the defined quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Operational Delivery:

Supervise groundworks operations including excavation, bulk earthworks, foundations, drainage, sub-bases and reinstatement

Direct and coordinate labour, plant and subcontractors on a daily basis

Ensure groundworks are set out and executed in line with drawings and specifications

Setting Out & Quality:

Work with engineers and setting-out teams to ensure accurate execution of levels, lines, and positions

Monitor tolerances on groundworks, sub-bases and structural interfaces

Maintain quality control and accurate site records

Health & Safety:

Implement and enforce site safety procedures and ensure RAMS are followed

Conduct daily briefings and toolbox talks with labour and subcontractors

Support risk assessments and environmental compliance

Communication & Reporting:

Update the Site Manager on progress, issues and resource requirements

Prepare daily logs, site diaries and subcontractor performance feedback

Liaise with technical, quality, and commercial staff to ensure smooth project delivery

Team Leadership:

Provide clear direction on tasks and sequences

Mentor and develop less experienced operatives on site

Ensure optimal plant utilisation and resource deployment

Requirements

Proven experience supervising groundworks and civils packages

Strong knowledge of drainage, earthworks, foundations and reinstatement

Competent understanding of setting out and working with site engineers

Excellent organisational and communication skills

Ability to lead a site team and manage subcontractors effectively

Valid SMSTS, CSCS and First Aid (essential)

Experience of working on live or secured environments is beneficial
