Design Manager – Building Projects

Location: Hertfordshire
Salary: Up to 70k

About the Role

We are seeking a Design Manager to lead the on-site design process at RIBA Stage 4 & 5 (Technical Design and Construction). You will manage design teams, coordinate subcontractors, and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and coordinate design teams, subcontractors, and consultants
Monitor design progress against project programmes and KPIs
Establish and manage project data, workflows, and Common Data Environment (CDE)
Prepare Design Management Plans (DMP) and BIM Execution Plans (BEP) and monitor compliance
Manage post-contract design changes, risks, and approvals
Review and approve design documentation, drawings, reports, and certificates
Chair design workshops and record outcomes
Ensure coordination, buildability, and compliance of all designs
Assist with technical submissions, Planning Conditions, and Building Regulations
Archive final design documentation and produce lessons learnt reportsIdeal Candidate

Strong experience managing building project designs, ideally in technical fit-out or construction environments
Confident leading design teams and liaising with subcontractors
Excellent project coordination, organisational, and communication skills
Knowledge of RIBA stages, CDM, BREEAM, and design risk management
