The role: The role of the Project Planner is to work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are defined. The planner provides clarity on key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organised to ensure the outcomes of a project can be achieved, with the resources available. They lead on all aspects of project planning, which will include the development, updating and monitoring of plans and schedules. They identify tasks, activities, interdependencies and outputs for the project and work with the project team to track and monitor progress against the plan throughout the life of the project. As a Project Planner in the Government Project Delivery Profession, you will sit at the heart of the project/programme and play a pivotal role in ensuring outcomes can be achieved. You will do this by embedding and maintaining planning frameworks. As well as providing senior leadership with advice to enable forward looking strategic delivery decisions. Responsibilities: Planning & Scheduling
• Develop and maintain integrated project schedules for AAP, ensuring alignment with programme objectives.
• Apply critical path analysis and planning best practices to optimise timelines and resource allocation.
• Synchronise Level 1 and Level 2 plans and ensure dependencies are accurately captured. Performance Monitoring
• Track progress against milestones and produce weekly/monthly scheduling reports.
• Identify variances and escalate risks or constraints impacting delivery.
• Provide data-driven insights to support decision-making and maintain programme credibility. Governance & Assurance
• Ensure compliance with Home Office Project Delivery Framework and IPA recommendations for bottom-up planning.
• Support assurance reviews and investment gateways with accurate scheduling data. Stakeholder Engagement
• Work closely with Project Managers, PMO, and external suppliers to gather updates and validate assumptions.
• Communicate scheduling impacts clearly to senior stakeholders. Continuous Improvement
• Challenge and test project assumptions to ensure plans remain achievable.
• Contribute to lessons learned and planning process enhancements. Skills & Experience:
• Proven experience of delivering results in a planning role within a complex project or programme environment.
• Visible leadership, with the ability to work closely, confidently, and influence a broad range of stakeholders including senior leaders.
• Experience implementing and driving standards across projects/programmes, championing project delivery best practice.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Hold Practitioner accreditation (or evidence of working towards completion within the next 12 months) under the Government Project Delivery Accreditation Scheme.
• Demonstrable experience in digital/data stewardship, including the use of digital tools for planning and insight.
• Project management accreditation (APM, PRINCE2, or equivalent).
• Experience in infrastructure or accommodation programmes.
• Familiarity with IPA assurance processes and government planning standards.
• Security Clearance (SC)
