Quantity Surveyor – Permanent
Location: Manchester
Background in groundworks, civil engineering, or a closely related field
Our client is currently seeking an experienced Quantity Surveyor to strengthen their team on a permanent basis.
You will be responsible for overseeing the commercial management of multiple live contracts, with individual project values ranging from £50,000 to £8 million. In this role, you will take full ownership of the commercial and financial aspects of each project while consistently delivering to the required quality and performance standards.
Core responsibilities will include:

Controlling and monitoring costs across individual sites
*
Measuring and valuing work completed on site
*
Preparing and submitting interim payment applications
*
Compiling and agreeing final accounts
*
Continuously reviewing and managing contractual terms, conditions, and agreements throughout the project lifecycle
Experience:
*
The successful candidate will come from a background in groundworks, civil engineering, or a closely related field, with proven experience in a similar position.
*
They should have practical knowledge across earthworks, groundworks, drainage systems, concrete structures, road construction, external works, and general building activities.
*
Applicants are expected to hold a degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, preferably Quantity Surveying, and bring at least 5 years of relevant professional experience in a comparable role.
*
Strong IT skills are essential, along with sound commercial and financial judgement, excellent organisational abilities, and strong interpersonal skills to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at every level.
*
Familiarity with Evaluate estimating software is highly desirable.
*
Previous exposure to Eque2 software would be a distinct advantage.
Main Responsibilities:
*
Management of sub-contractor procurement processes
*
Preparation and issuance of sub-contract orders
*
Preparation and issuance of sub-contract payment certificates
*
Regular site visits and close liaison with the ACS workforce (tracking progress, gathering site records, reviewing scope for additional works, and conducting valuation discussions)
*
Site visits to engage with other project parties (principal contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders)
*
Taking off quantities from drawings using On-Screen Take Off software (for tendering, interim valuations, final accounts, etc.)
*
Preparation of QS cost reports and cost analysis documentation
*
Production of monthly valuations (measuring and valuing contract works, assessing daywork records, and compiling supporting documentation for claims)
*
Ongoing monitoring and control of project costs
*
Regular assessment and performance review of suppliers and subcontractors
