Senior Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Senior Engineer to support delivery of a major infrastructure scheme. This is a high-profile project involving complex utility installations, strict quality standards, and detailed construction planning. The role is site-based and requires a proactive, technically strong engineer who can lead from the front and ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to specification.

Key Responsibilities

– Oversee and coordinate utility installation works (water, gas, electric, telecoms, drainage), ensuring compliance with drawings, specifications, and statutory requirements

– Review and manage subcontractors and direct labour on site

– Prepare, review, and implement RAMs (Risk Assessments and Method Statements)

– Ensure all works meet project QA (Quality Assurance) procedures and maintain accurate quality records

– Manage ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans) and ensure sign-off in line with client requirements

– Liaise with design teams, commercial teams, and site management to resolve technical queries

– Conduct site inspections and audits to maintain safety, quality, and programme standards

– Provide technical input to programme planning and short-term lookahead schedules

– Maintain accurate site documentation including as-builts and progress reporting

Requirements

– Proven experience as a Senior Engineer on major infrastructure projects (highways, rail, utilities, civils, or large-scale public works)

– Strong working knowledge of utility coordination and installation processes

– Demonstrable experience managing QA systems, ITPs, and compliance documentation

– Experienced in preparing and reviewing detailed RAMs

– Strong understanding of HSEQ standards and CDM regulations

– CSCS card (Black/Gold preferred)

– SMSTS or equivalent (desirable)

– Excellent communication and leadership skills

Desirable Experience

– Experience working on nationally significant infrastructure schemes such as HS2, Thames Tideway Tunnel, or Crossrail

– Temporary works coordination

– NEC contract experience
