Setting Out Engineer – Shaft Sinking & Tunnelling Project
Location: Newton Abbot
Start Date: 26th January
Duration: 3+ months
Pay: £330 per day
Our client is seeking an experienced Setting Out Engineer to support a major shaft sinking and tunnelling project as part of a new prison development. This role offers the opportunity to work on a technically complex and high‑profile scheme with a leading contractor.
A valid DBS check is required for this role as it is based on a prison, we will arrange this on your behalf.
Key Responsibilities:
Setting out for tunnelling and shaft sinking works
Working closely with construction teams to ensure accurate alignment and levels
Managing site surveys, as‑built records, and QA documentation
Ensuring all works comply with project specifications and safety requirements
Requirements:
Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on tunnelling, shaft sinking, or heavy civil engineering projects
Strong knowledge of survey equipment (e.g., total station, GPS)
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work within a fast‑paced, complex environment
Ability to liaise effectively with engineers, supervisors, and project managers
DBS clearance (arranged by us)
