Leading Civil Engineering Contractor
Location: Glasgow
A well-established and highly respected civil engineering contractor is seeking a senior Health & Safety professional to step into a strategic leadership role.
This is not a project-level H&S position. It is a board-facing, forward-looking role designed to shape and elevate the company’s health & safety strategy across the business.
The Role
Reporting directly to the Board, the Head of Health & Safety will provide strategic leadership across all H&S functions. You will sit above the current operational H&S structure, offering direction, oversight and long-term vision.
You will:
Lead and develop the Health & Safety function across the business
Provide oversight and guidance to the existing H&S Manager and advisory team
Identify emerging risks, regulatory changes and future challenges
Develop proactive strategies that enhance compliance, culture and performance
Present clear, solution-focused reporting to the Board
Drive continuous improvement initiatives aligned with company objectives
Support ISO standards development (ISO 9001 experience desirable)
This role is primarily based in the Glasgow office, with occasional site visits as required.
About You
We are looking for a polished, credible senior H&S professional who is ready to operate at board level and influence at the highest level of the organisation.
You will likely be:
Currently operating in a senior Health & Safety leadership role
Ready to step into a Head of function or Director-level position
Experienced within civil engineering or a related construction environment
Strategically minded, commercially aware and confident presenting to senior stakeholders
Qualifications & Experience:
NEBOSH qualification essential
IOSH membership preferred
Chartered status desirable (but not essential)
Experience supporting or working within ISO 9001 frameworks advantageous
