A leading privately owned civil engineering contractor with over 40 years of experience delivering major UK infrastructure projects is seeking an experienced Site Agent to join their team in East London.
Operating as a Tier 1 contractor across long-term frameworks in the water, transport, energy and built environment sectors, this organisation is recognised for delivering complex infrastructure schemes through a direct delivery model and for investing heavily in staff development and long-term career progression.
This role offers the opportunity to lead a technically complex remediation package involving bridge structures and trunk sewer works across live rail and highway interfaces within the water sector. The scheme is currently in the design phase, offering involvement from conception through to full construction delivery.
The Role
As Site Agent, you will take full responsibility for the safe, efficient and commercially successful delivery of the project. You will lead site operations, manage engineering and subcontractor teams, and ensure works are delivered to programme, budget and specification.
You will play a key role in risk management, temporary works coordination, stakeholder engagement and client liaison, ensuring all project objectives are achieved while maintaining the highest standards of health, safety, quality and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Site Leadership

Overall responsibility for successful delivery of the project package

Lead site teams including Sub Agents, Engineers and subcontractors
*
Ensure works are delivered safely, without environmental incidents
*
Oversee production and implementation of RAMS, ITPs and quality plans
*
Manage pre-construction reviews, permits and stakeholder consents
*
Maintain and drive the construction programme and short-term lookaheads
*
Chair site meetings and ensure actions are tracked and completed
Commercial & Contract Management
*
Manage cost control, forecasting and reporting
*
Maximise commercial performance and identify value engineering opportunities
*
Notify and substantiate variations in line with contract requirements
*
Work collaboratively with commercial and planning teams
*
Maintain detailed records and ensure accurate reporting to senior management and client
Client & Stakeholder Interface
*
Act as primary point of contact on site for the client and key stakeholders
*
Build and maintain strong working relationships
*
Lead on planning, permitting and coordination with external parties
*
Ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded
Team Development & Compliance
*
Lead, mentor and develop engineering and supervisory teams
*
Drive high standards of compliance in HSQE
*
Promote a positive and collaborative site culture

Support recruitment and performance development of site staff
Requirements
Essential:
*
Degree or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent), Strong background in civil engineering and infrastructure projects, Proven experience delivering projects within the water sector, Working knowledge of NEC contract conditions, Strong understanding of CDM regulations, risk management and cost control, CSCS Card, SMSTS, Excellent leadership and communication skills, Experience managing multidisciplinary teams, Ability to lead solutions to technically challenging problems
