Built on strong family values and long-term client partnerships, this tier one contractor operates across the water, transport, built environment and energy sectors, providing design, construction and maintenance solutions nationwide.

With a direct delivery model at its core, the business employs more than 1,200 professionals and invests heavily in developing in-house expertise across civil engineering, MEICA, tunnelling, temporary and permanent works design, steel fabrication and specialist safety solutions. Its reputation is built on safety, quality, sustainability and lasting relationships.

An opportunity is now available for a Sub Agent to support the successful delivery of civil engineering projects, particularly within the water sector. This role would ideally suit an experienced Site Engineer ready to take the next step or an established Sub Agent seeking stability and long-term progression within a secure infrastructure environment.

As Sub Agent, you will take ownership of small to medium-sized schemes or support senior leadership on larger projects, ensuring safe, compliant and commercially successful delivery from start to finish. You will manage programmes, coordinate site teams and subcontractors, maintain cost control, and uphold the highest standards of health, safety, environmental and quality performance.

Key highlights of the role include:

• Managing civil engineering projects to meet programme, budget and quality objectives
• Maintaining strong commercial performance and accurate cost forecasting
• Producing and managing detailed project programmes
• Providing technical engineering support and resolving on-site challenges
• Ensuring full compliance with NEC contracts and CDM regulations
• Leading site teams and fostering a positive, safety-first culture
• Chairing site meetings and producing high-quality client reports
• Managing subcontractors and maintaining collaborative stakeholder relationships
• Overseeing inspections, audits and HSEQ documentation
• Ensuring works are delivered defect-free and on time
• Maintaining accurate site diaries and as-built records
• Driving resource efficiency and resolving operational issues promptly

Candidates should have considerable civil engineering experience, with at least five years’ water sector exposure preferred, ideally within a direct delivery environment. A degree or HNC in Civil Engineering (or equivalent) is required along with CSCS, SMSTS and NEBOSH or IOSH certification and a full UK driving licence. Strong knowledge of design management, risk management, cost reporting and programme control is essential. Confined space and first aid training are advantageous.

In return, you will join a people-focused organisation known for investing in its workforce and promoting from within. The business offers long-term secured work through major infrastructure frameworks, clear career progression pathways and a supportive leadership culture.

The package includes:

• Competitive salary
• Company pension and life assurance
• Private medical cover
• 25 days annual leave plus bank holidays and loyalty days
• Paid volunteering hours
• Employee assistance programme for mental, physical and financial wellbeing
• Flexible benefits options
• Company vehicle or allowance (role dependent)
• Ongoing leadership training and professional development

This is a permanent, full-time position working 45 hours per week, typically 7:30am to 5:30pm with a one-hour break. If you are ready to step into a leadership role within a secure, forward-thinking infrastructure business delivering essential projects across the UK, this is your opportunity to take the next step in your career
