An established and growing construction and refurbishment contractor operating within the social housing sector is seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to join its commercial team.

The business delivers refurbishment and development projects across the North West, North Wales and West Yorkshire, with a strong focus on improving homes and supporting local communities. The organisation prides itself on quality delivery, long-term client relationships and a values-led culture.

The Role

This is a key commercial position responsible for producing accurate, competitive and strategically aligned cost estimates. You will play an integral role in securing new work by ensuring bids are commercially robust, appropriately risk-assessed and positioned for success.

The role would suit a commercially astute professional who is confident managing the full estimating process and collaborating with operational teams to develop winning tender submissions.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates for tenders and live opportunities

*

Review drawings, specifications and supporting documentation to determine scope and requirements

*

Collaborate with operational and delivery teams to develop tender strategies and win themes

*

Obtain and analyse supplier and subcontractor quotations to ensure best-value procurement

*

Produce elemental cost plans, value engineering proposals and supporting pricing documentation

*

Conduct site visits and desktop assessments to inform accurate pricing

*

Support pre-construction activities and contribute to project reviews throughout the lifecycle

*

Identify commercial, technical and operational risks within tender submissions

*

Attend client meetings, negotiations and presentations where required

*

Maintain and update cost databases, schedules of rates and pricing records

*

Provide guidance and mentorship to junior team members

Candidate Profile

*

Degree or diploma in Estimating, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management or similar discipline

*

Minimum 5 years’ estimating experience within construction, ideally in social housing or refurbishment

*

Strong knowledge of construction techniques, materials and relevant regulations

*

Ability to interpret drawings and technical documentation accurately

*

High level of numeracy, attention to detail and analytical ability

*

Strong commercial awareness with a proactive approach to risk management

*

Proficient in Excel and estimating software

*

Confident communicator with strong negotiation and problem-solving skills

*

Capable of managing multiple tenders and meeting tight deadlines
