Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) | Manchester | £28,000–£36,000 + package | Permanent | Mon–Fri 8:30–5

We’re recruiting an Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS) for a growing cost management team supporting a busy, UK-wide programme of works. This is a great opportunity to build broad PQS/consultancy experience, take ownership of your own projects, and develop your commercial skillset in a fast-paced, client-led environment.

You’ll join a multi-disciplinary consultancy delivering cost management, project management, health & safety and design services across complex programmes. The role suits someone who’s detail-driven, confident communicating with stakeholders, and keen to progress (APC support can be available).

The role

As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor (AQS), you’ll support the full cost management lifecycle — from early cost planning through procurement support, change control, valuations and final account activity — while maintaining accurate reporting and strong audit trails.

Key responsibilities

*

Assist with cost plans, estimates, benchmarking and feasibility budgets

*

Produce accurate cost reports, forecasts and cost-to-complete updates

*

Support programme governance: risk/opportunity tracking, clear reporting, strong attention to detail

*

Assist tender processes: documentation, analysis, levelling and recommendations

*

Support payment processes/valuations and general commercial administration

*

Help manage change control: variation assessments, logs, substantiation and approvals

*

Attend and contribute to client meetings, presenting updates clearly and professionally

*

Work flexibly within client processes/structures, adopting templates and ways of working

What we’re looking for

*

Some experience in a cost management / QS environment (consultancy/PQS ideal)

*

Strong Excel and reporting capability

*

Confident written and verbal communication (client-facing)

*

High accuracy, good organisation, able to juggle multiple deadlines

*

Positive attitude and willingness to learn and develop

Working pattern / travel

*

Manchester base with hybrid working supported (role-dependent)

*

Occasional UK/ROI travel for meetings/site visits (typically a few visits per month, as required)
